The study investigated the effect of COVID-19 on fetal neurodevelopment in 54 pregnancies recovering from the infection compared to 58 controls. Measurements of fetal brain structures were taken in the third trimester, and fetal cortical development was graded. The study found that COVID-19 affected fetal neurodevelopment, with reduced calcarine fissure depth and corpus callosum thickness, increased cavum septum pellucidum length and ratio, and altered fetal cortical development. The study concludes that COVID-19 may have an impact on fetal neurodevelopment.
