New diagnostic tool could revolutionize early bladder cancer detection

A urine test using the biomarker mePENK shows promise in early bladder cancer detection. With 86.9% sensitivity and 91.6% specificity, it distinguishes bladder cancer from non-malignant hematuria cases. Clinical tests on 366 patients achieved 84.2% sensitivity and 95.7% specificity for detecting various bladder cancer stages. This promising diagnostic tool could reduce unnecessary invasive procedures, improving patient outcomes and reducing healthcare costs.
