New Glaucoma Survey Instrument Validated for Assessing Treatment Impact on Quality of Life

A recent study has developed a standardized patient-reported outcome measure, the Glaucoma Outcomes Survey (GOS), to assess the impact of glaucoma and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) on health-related quality of life (HRQOL). Conducted before and after cataract and FDA-approved MIGS device surgeries, this observational study involved 184 adults, with follow-up surveys completed by 124 participants. The GOS, consisting of 42 items, demonstrated strong internal consistency and test-retest reliability. Findings indicated significant improvements in functional limitations, vision-related symptoms, and psychosocial issues post-surgery. Further evaluation across diverse clinical settings is recommended to validate the instrument's utility.
