New Insulin Offers Potential for Simplified Type II Diabetes Management

A study assessed the efficacy and safety of once-weekly Insulin Icodec compared to once-daily Insulin Glargine U-100 in individuals with type II diabetes (T2D). Four randomized control trials (RCTs) with 1035 participants were included. Insulin Icodec demonstrated a 4.68% longer time in range (TIR) compared to Insulin Glargine U-100, with similar changes in HbA1c and fasting plasma glucose (FPG) levels. The incidence of hypoglycemia was also comparable between the two regimens. These findings suggest that switching from daily Insulin Glargine U-100 to weekly Insulin Icodec may offer comparable glycemic control and safety, providing a potential alternative for managing T2D.
