
A recent study investigated the predictive value of a newly developed MRI-based Endplate Bone Quality (EBQ) in predicting cage subsidence following anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF). Results showed that 14.56% experienced cage subsidence after ACDF. The EBQ and T-score were significantly higher in the subsidence group compared to the non-subsidence group. EBQ demonstrated a strong positive correlation with segmental height loss. An EBQ threshold of 4.70 was identified as optimal for predicting cage subsidence with high sensitivity and specificity. Additionally, an elevated cervical EBQ score and lowest T-score were significant risk factors for cage subsidence post-ACDF. This suggests that EBQ is a promising tool for assessing patients at risk of cage subsidence and osteoporosis before cervical spine surgery.
