This study investigated the association between newborn hearing screening results and audiologic and clinical outcomes in pediatric patients with hearing loss due to an enlarged vestibular aqueduct (EVA). The results showed that nearly half of the 183 patients in the study passed their newborn hearing screening, and these patients were more likely to have unilateral EVA and hearing loss and less likely to undergo cochlear implantation. The study highlights the importance of regular hearing monitoring for children who pass their newborn hearing screening and are not initially suspected of having hearing loss.
