The randomized clinical trial evaluated the impact of systematic ultrasound screening for deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in critically ill COVID-19 patients. While DVT was more common in the screening group (16.7% vs 3.8%, p = 0.007), there were no significant differences in clinical outcomes or a composite endpoint of poor prognosis (p = 0.123). The study concluded that routine DVT screening did not provide clinical benefits over usual care in ICU patients with severe COVID-19.
