No Increased Risk of Cardiac Birth Defects in Infants of Mothers With Celiac Disease

The study analyzed data from 2002 to 2016, finding no significant association between maternal CeD and congenital disabilities. A total of 6,990 infants born to mothers with CeD were compared to 34,643 from non-CeD mothers. Both congenital disabilities and cardiac defects showed similar occurrence rates in both groups, debunking previous concerns. The study underscores that maternal CeD might not significantly elevate the risk of birth defects in offspring.
