Node Count as a Quality Indicator in Surgically Treated Mucosal Head and Neck Squamous Cell Cancer

In this retrospective review, a yield of <18 nodes from neck dissection significantly decreased in 2017–2018 compared to 2015–2016, following routine incorporation of node count into tumour board discussions of surgical care. These findings suggest that lymph node yield can be used to measure the quality of neck dissection for mucosal SCC to identify modifiable gaps in care and variability in practice patterns.
