Non-Invasive Stimulation Promotes Improved Postural Balance in Bilateral Vestibulopathy Patients

A recent study investigated the mechanisms behind the therapeutic effect of vestibular noise stimulation, specifically examining whether the balance improvements align with stochastic resonance (SR), a phenomenon where weak noise stimulation enhances sensory signal processing. Results from nGVS on 19 BVP patients revealed significant reductions in body sway in 63% of cases, with strong SR effects observed in 53%, particularly in patients with severe vestibular loss and postural imbalance. These findings suggest that nGVS could be a beneficial and well-tolerated treatment for BVP patients, especially those with greater disease severity.
