Nonoperative Management of Degenerative Medial Meniscus Posterior Root Tears: Poor Outcomes at a Minimum 10-Year Follow-up

A recent study has shed light on the long-term effects of untreated medial meniscus posterior root tears (MMPRTs). Out of the 47 patients who were followed for an average of 14 years, 53% underwent total knee arthroplasty, 17% passed away, and only 30% had not required surgery. Furthermore, the study found that the remaining patients experienced poor subjective scores and radiographic progression. These findings highlight the importance of early intervention for MMPRTs to prevent adverse outcomes.
