
This study investigates the diagnostic and therapeutic potential of the mitochondrial-derived short peptide MOTS-c in Hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related diseases. Analyzing 85 healthy subjects and 404 HBV-infected patients, including 20 clinical cohorts, the research reveals MOTS-c's negative correlation with HBV DNA expression. MOTS-c demonstrates high diagnostic accuracy, distinguishing between chronic HBV (CHB) and healthy controls, as well as immune reactive and inactive carriers. In vitro and in vivo experiments highlight MOTS-c's inhibition of HBV replication, improved liver function, and promotion of mitochondrial biogenesis through the MYH9-actin-mediated pathway.
