A study identified protein markers associated with exercise blood pressure (EBP) and tested their association with incident hypertension. In the HERITAGE Family Study, 4977 plasma proteins were assayed in 681 healthy participants. The study spanned from 1993 to 2020, and participants were cardiovascular disease-free. Proteins linked to EBP were tested for hypertension association in the Framingham Heart Study, Jackson Heart Study, and Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis and validated using cis-MR analysis. The findings revealed 34 proteins associated with EBP, notably TGFBR3 and PTGDS. TGFBR3 was inversely associated with incident hypertension and cardiovascular events. TGFBR3, identified through plasma proteomic profiling, may protect against elevated blood pressure and cardiovascular disease outcomes.
