Obesity and asthma increase airway inflammation, as indicated by elevated FeNO levels, even after exercise. In a study of 70 children, the highest FeNO levels were found in the obese-asthmatic group. Exercise did not affect FeNO levels, but spirometric parameters like FEV1/FVC were lowest in this group. Obese children, regardless of asthma, had higher FeNO and FEV1 values than normal-weight asthmatics, suggesting that obesity amplifies airway inflammation.
