Obesity Raises Iron Deficiency Risk in Children

The systematic review found a significant association between obesity and iron deficiency (ID) in children. Among 49,206 children, those with obesity had a higher risk of ID (OR: 1.64; 95% CI: 1.22–2.21) but no significant link to iron deficiency anemia. Obese children showed lower hemoglobin, iron, and transferrin saturation levels, with elevated ferritin and hepcidin levels compared to non-obese children.
