This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of omega-3 fatty acid (O3FA) supplementation in treating olfactory dysfunction (OD) associated with COVID-19. The patients with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 and new-onset OD were recruited. The experimental group received 2 g of O3FA daily for 6 weeks, while the control group received a placebo. The primary outcome was the change in BSIT score after 6 weeks. The study found that the O3FA group did not demonstrate significant short-term or long-term improvement in olfactory function compared to the placebo group. The results suggest that high doses of O3FA supplementation did not have a clear effect on COVID-related OD.
