In the SUSTAIN 11 clinical trial, glucagon‐like peptide‐1 receptor agonist once‐weekly semaglutide was associated with improvements in glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) and body weight versus insulin aspart in people with type 2 diabetes with inadequate glycaemic control on basal insulin. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate the long‐term cost‐effectiveness of once‐weekly semaglutide 1 mg versus insulin aspart in the UK. The study's findings indicated that based on a willingness‐to‐pay threshold of GBP 20,000 per QALY, once‐weekly semaglutide 1 mg was projected to be highly cost‐effective versus insulin aspart for the treatment of type 2 diabetes in the UK.
