Oncoprotein-induced protein-vesicles promotes NLRP3 ubiquitination to alleviate acute lung injury after cardiac surgery

This study investigates the role of oncoprotein-induced transcript 3 (OIT3) in extracellular vesicles (EVs) in acute lung injury (ALI) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) following cardiac surgery. OIT3-enriched EVs are reduced after surgery and correlate negatively with lung edema, hypoxemia, and cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) time. OIT3-overexpressed EVs mitigate CPB-induced ALI by inhibiting NLRP3 inflammasome activation and pro-inflammatory cytokine release. OIT3 is a potential biomarker and therapeutic target for ARDS and ALI post-cardiac surgery.
