A study conducted across eight countries explored the impact of maternal isoniazid preventive therapy timing on infant tuberculosis risk. The study assessed 749 mother-child pairs and revealed that 6% of infants tested positive for tuberculosis infection, with no significant difference between those whose mothers began isoniazid therapy antepartum or postpartum. Breastfeeding, BCG vaccination, and maternal tuberculosis test positivity were linked to infant test positivity. The study underscores the complex nature of preventing tuberculosis transmission from mother to child.
