The study examined the outcomes and prognostic factors for patients with cutaneous angiosarcoma (CA) of the face and scalp. The researchers conducted a retrospective review of patients treated between 1962 and 2019, analyzing the data of 143 patients with a median follow-up of 33 months. The five-year local control (LC) rate was 51%, which was worse in patients with tumors larger than 5 cm, multifocal tumors, those treated before 2000, and those receiving single modality therapy (SMT). These factors remained significant on multivariable analysis. The five-year disease-specific survival (DSS) rate for the cohort was 56%, and factors associated with worse DSS included tumor size larger than 5 cm, non-scalp primary site, treatment before 2000, and SMT. The study concluded that large or multifocal tumors have negative prognostic implications, and a combination of surgery and radiation therapy (S-XRT) improves outcomes.
