Outcomes of Frontal Sinus Stenting With Steroid Impregnated Microsponge Versus Steroid-Eluting Implant

A recent study compared the effectiveness of two different stents used in frontal sinus surgery. The stents were made of different materials: one was a commercially available Mometasone-eluting poly-L-lactide-coglycolide (MPLG) stent, and the other was a chitosan polymer-based drug delivery microsponge called triamcinolone-impregnated chitosan polymer (TICP). The study included 68 subjects who received either the TICP or MPLG stent. The results showed that both stents had similar outcomes in terms of frontal sinus ostium (FSO) patency and improvement in sinonasal symptoms. However, the TICP stent was significantly cheaper than the MPLG stent.
