Ranchi witnessed the inauguration of the National Sickle Cell Anaemia Eradication Mission, aiming to raise awareness, provide essential healthcare services, and eliminate sickle cell anaemia, the most common form of sickle cell disease, from India. Out of 64,269 anaemia patients identified in the state, 2,079 have sickle cell disease, with 24 requiring better care. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, launching the campaign remotely from Madhya Pradesh, expressed the goal to eradicate sickle cell anaemia by India's 100th independence anniversary in 2047. State health minister Banna Gupta emphasized the importance of public education, genetic testing, and early identification to ensure prompt care for patients.
