Overcoming Obstructive Sleep Apnea: The Impact of CPAP on Atrial Remodeling and Diastolic Dysfunction

The study aimed to assess the impact of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) treatment on heart remodeling and diastolic dysfunction in patients with metabolic syndrome (MS). The study was conducted as a prespecified analysis of a randomized placebo‐controlled trial involving patients with MS and moderate-to-severe OSA, who underwent continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) or nasal dilators (placebo) for 6 months. The study found that CPAP prevented atrial enlargement and increased the chance of diastolic dysfunction reversibility in patients with MS and OSA.
