Paracetamol, known for inducing hepatotoxicity, has uncertain links to liver cancer. In a 12.6-year study of 464,244 UK Biobank participants, paracetamol users exhibited a 28% increased risk of liver cancer compared to nonusers. Results proved robust in various analyses, and the risk remained significant after adjusting for potential confounders. The number needed to harm at 10 years was 1106.4. The findings suggest caution in prescribing paracetamol, emphasizing the need for personalized assessments of liver cancer risk.
