The study provides evidence that negative parental reactions during delayed tasks contribute to increased ADHD behaviors in preschoolers. Children's maladaptive responses to delay frustration, coupled with parental negativity, predicted an increase in ADHD symptoms over time, mediated by delay aversion. These effects were consistent across UK and Hong Kong samples, highlighting the role of early social interactions in the development of ADHD. Future research should examine clinical samples and diverse aversive environments.
