
Parkinson's disease (PD), the fastest-growing neurological disorder worldwide, presents challenges due to progressive disability, levodopa-resistant symptoms, and treatment complications. Current research prioritizes two main goals: slowing disease progression through biomarkers and targeted therapies and improving symptomatic management to delay complications. Disease modification remains difficult due to PD’s complex pathophysiology and multiple underlying mechanisms, with ongoing studies focusing on α-synuclein aggregation and pathways linked to genetic PD variants. Advances depend on reliable end points, technological integration, and biomarkers for early diagnosis and disease monitoring. Enhanced symptomatic treatments, including surgical and infusion options, are critical to managing levodopa-resistant symptoms and improving patient quality of life.
