Pathological Risk Factors' Influence on Lymph Node Metastasis and Survival in Early-Stage Vulvar Cancer

In a recent study utilizing the SEER database, researchers explored the relationship between tumor size and lymph node involvement in vulvar squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) cases. The study, spanning 2000 to 2019, scrutinized patients with known tumor sizes and examined regional lymph nodes. Findings indicate that tumor size and grade of the disease are crucial factors in predicting lymph node status. Among patients with low-grade small tumors (up to 2 cm), those with tumors larger than 1 cm had a 2.5 times higher odds of positive lymph nodes. Additionally, older age, larger tumor size, and positive lymph nodes independently correlated with reduced survival rates.
