Patients undergoing Mohs micrographic surgery prefer over-the-counter (OTC) medications over a combination of OTCs and opioids for pain management, according to a recent study. The study, conducted at a single academic medical center, evaluated patient preferences for pain management based on theoretical pain levels and opioid addiction risks. Of the 295 respondents, 76% preferred only OTCs, while 34% refused opioids altogether. The study emphasized the importance of shared decision-making between patients and healthcare providers to determine the most suitable pain control plan.
