Patient Reported Outcomes of Transperineal Prostate Biopsy With Tumescent Local Anesthesia

In a novel approach, transperineal prostate biopsy with tumescent local anesthesia was performed in an office setting, revealing acceptable safety and tolerance. However, compared to standard transrectal biopsy, patients undergoing the transperineal procedure reported significantly higher pain scores (3.9 vs 1.6, P < .01), anxiety (71% vs 45%, P < .01), and embarrassment (32% vs 15%, P < .01). Although pain scores dropped post-procedure, the findings suggest that despite its safety, the new technique may be associated with increased procedural discomfort for patients.
