Cancer immunotherapy has transformed cancer treatment, but many tumors do not respond to these therapies. To advance immuno-oncology, a deeper understanding of the immune response to cancer is needed. Patient-derived models that accurately represent the complexity and diversity of the tumor-immune ecosystem are crucial. These models help analyze the human tumor immune microenvironment and identify new therapeutic targets. Additionally, they aid in understanding the mechanisms of action of treatment compounds and conducting preclinical studies, ultimately improving the success of clinical testing. In this viewpoint, the author provides a concise overview of patient-derived models for cancer immunotherapy.
