Pelvic floor ultrasound evaluation in the diagnosis of exposure of synthetic implanted materials in the lower urinary tract

This study aimed to assess the accuracy of pelvic floor ultrasound (PFUS) in identifying prosthetic exposure in the bladder and/or urethra in women experiencing lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). Out of 100 women analyzed, the rate of tape exposure in the lower urinary tract was 3%. PFUS demonstrated excellent sensitivity (100%) and specificity (98%-100%) in detecting mesh exposure. The study concludes that PFUS is a reliable and non-invasive screening tool for excluding prosthetic exposure in the bladder and/or urethra in women with LUTS.
