Percentage of maximum weight lost as an optimal parameter of weight regain after bariatric surgery in diabetes patients

This study compared the different measures of weight regain (WR) and their association with glucose metabolism deterioration after bariatric surgery among Chinese patients with obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). It analyzed a cohort of 249 patients who underwent bariatric surgery and were followed up for 3 years. The results showed that the percentage of maximum weight lost (%MWL) had better discriminatory ability and higher prediction accuracy for glucose metabolism deterioration than other measures of WR. The optimal %MWL cutoff point was found to be 20%.
