A study conducted in Denmark aimed to explore the perceptions, attitudes, and potential barriers between people with obesity (PwO) and healthcare professionals (HCPs). The survey included 879 PwO and 100 HCPs. The results revealed discrepancies between the two groups, with fewer PwO recognizing obesity as a chronic disease compared to HCPs. Additionally, PwO felt more responsible for their weight loss than HCPs perceived. There was a delay in initiating obesity care consultations, with PwO waiting an average of 7 years from their decision to lose weight. Follow-up consultations were also lacking. These findings emphasize the need for improved obesity care and better alignment of perceptions and attitudes between PwO and HCPs in Denmark.
