Periodontal Disease Linked to Serum Markers in Hemodialysis Patients

A study of 70 Yemeni hemodialysis patients investigated the relationship between periodontal disease and serum markers. Significant correlations were found between serum biomarkers and periodontal clinical parameters. Phosphorus, creatinine, albumin, and ferritin levels showed notable associations with the Plaque Index, while ferritin also correlated with Miller Classes. Calcium levels were significantly related to the Gingival Index, and cystatin C levels correlated with mobility. Additionally, creatinine levels were associated with periodontitis. The results highlight a strong link between periodontal disease and chronic kidney disease, emphasizing the importance of oral health in the management of hemodialysis patients.
