Perioperative Nivolumab and Chemotherapy in Stage III Non–Small-Cell Lung Cancer

The present phase 2 clinical trial focused on treating patients with resectable stage IIIA or IIIB non–small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) using different treatment approaches. The patients were randomly assigned to either receive neoadjuvant nivolumab plus platinum-based chemotherapy (experimental group) or chemotherapy alone (control group) before surgery. The primary endpoint was the pathological complete response, and secondary endpoints included progression-free survival and overall survival at 24 months. The results showed that the experimental group had a higher percentage of patients with a pathological complete response and longer survival compared to the control group. These findings suggest that perioperative treatment with nivolumab plus chemotherapy may be more effective in achieving complete response and improving survival in patients with resectable stage IIIA or IIIB NSCLC compared to chemotherapy alone.
