New research reveals that the real-world persistence of medical treatments for overactive bladder (OAB) is significantly lower than previously thought. The study examined data from a large regional provider's medication purchase database, covering a period from 2010 to 2020. Out of 46,079 women initiating OAB pharmacotherapy, only 39% tried more than one medication. The overall persistence rate for all drugs was 55% at 30 days, 46% at 90 days, and 37% per year. The introduction of Mirabegron, a commonly prescribed medication for OAB, did not improve these rates or impact the treatment sequence. These findings highlight the need for better strategies to enhance treatment persistence in OAB patients.
