Persistent cognitive slowing in post-COVID patients: longitudinal study over 6 months

This prospective study investigates cognitive deficits, particularly in processing speed, among post-COVID syndrome (PCS) patients. Focusing on the brain's arousal network, the study assesses 88 PCS patients and 50 healthy controls using neuropsychological tests. Patients exhibit cognitive slowing, reflected in longer reaction times across tasks, and this deficit remains consistent over a 6-month follow-up. The study identifies hypoarousal as a persistent core deficit in PCS, impacting processing speed and contributing to symptoms like fatigue.
