A study conducted at a tertiary healthcare center between 2014 and 2022 identified 24 cases of Klebsiella pneumoniae (Kp) bacteremia carrying both blaKPC and blaVIM-1 carbapenemase genes. Whole-genome sequencing revealed that these genes were located on distinct plasmids: blaKPC on IncFIB(pQil) and IncFII(K) plasmids and blaVIM-1 on IncC or IncFIB(pNDM-Mar). The isolates clustered into six clonal lineages, and the study demonstrated that the dissemination of carbapenemase genes was facilitated by multiple plasmids across various efficient clonal lineages. This highlights an emerging hospital-based public health threat.
