Polygenic Risk Scores in Cardiovascular Medicine: Hype or Hope?

Polygenic Risk Scores in Cardiovascular Medicine: Hype or Hope?

The article discusses polygenic risk scores (PRSs) and their potential use in clinical practice for cardiometabolic diseases. The study conducted a scoping review of 82 articles related to PRSs and found that most studies focused on individuals of European ancestry, with limited ancestral diversity observed in the study sample populations. However, the predictive performance of most PRSs was similar to or better than traditional risk factors, and the inclusion of a PRS in clinical risk models tended to improve predictive accuracy. The study recommends further research to establish the clinical utility of PRSs and ensure diversity in genome-wide association study cohorts
