This study aimed to assess the impact of post-diagnostic use and duration of metformin and statin medications on the risk of biochemical recurrence in a diverse group of veterans with prostate cancer. The cohort included a total of 65,759 men, with 18,817 being Black, 46,631 being White, and 311 belonging to other races. The analysis used Cox Proportional Hazard Models to examine the association between metformin and statin use and biochemical recurrence, both for the overall cohort and by race. The results showed that post-diagnostic metformin use did not have a significant association with biochemical recurrence, but the duration of metformin use was linked to a reduced risk of recurrence. On the other hand, statin use was associated with a decreased risk of biochemical recurrence, and a longer duration of statin use further reduced the risk. These findings suggest that both metformin and statin medications have the potential to prevent biochemical recurrence in men with prostate cancer.
