
The study investigated the diagnostic value of detecting Eosinophilic cationic protein (ECP) in nasal secretions for different types of Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) and its correlation with clinical symptoms. Nasal secretions and tissues were collected from patients, and ECP levels and eosinophil percentage (EOS%) were measured. Eosinophilic CRS (ECRS) patients had higher ECP concentrations than healthy and non-eosinophilic CRS (NECRS) subjects. EOS% in nasal secretions was higher in ECRS compared to healthy subjects. EOS% and ECP in secretions correlated with clinical symptom scores. ECP in secretions showed the highest diagnostic potential for ECRS. The study concludes that measuring ECP in nasal secretions can be a useful non-invasive diagnostic tool for ECRS.
