Pregnancy outcomes of women with cardiac disease

A recent study analyzed 147 pregnancies in women with cardiac disease, revealing valuable insights. Findings indicate that 73.5% had acquired heart disease, with 2.7% falling into the WHO class IV category, where pregnancy is discouraged. Furthermore, 8.1% faced significant cardiac risk. Maternal and perinatal mortality rates were 4.0% and 4.8%, respectively. The study shows that WHO and CARPREG scoring systems effectively predict cardiac events. Notably, women receiving preconception counseling experienced fewer cardiac and obstetric issues. This study highlights the importance of risk assessment in managing cardiac disease during pregnancy, offering hope for better maternal and neonatal outcomes.
