OPHTHALMOLOGY

The study reported efficacy and safety outcomes of the PRESERFLO™ MicroShunt compared with trabeculectomy, the current gold‐standard treatment for advanced glaucoma, in the early and intermediate postoperative period. The study is part of the Dresden Glaucoma and Treatment Study (DGTS), which was not randomised but used a uniform study design, with the same inclusion and exclusion criteria and standardised definitions of success and failure. Main outcome measures: mean diurnal IOP (mdIOP, mean of 6 measurements), diurnal peak IOP, diurnal IOP fluctuations, glaucoma medical therapy, success rates, visual acuity, and severe adverse events. Both procedures are equally effective and safe in lowering mdIOP in patients with POAG. Because the micro shunt is less invasive with less follow‐up and interventions needed postoperatively, it might be recommended earlier in the treatment of glaucoma.

Nasal polyposis and earlier age at asthma onset were independently associated with treatment response, while obesity and total IgE levels were not independently associated with response. The findings support phenotype-oriented approaches to biologic selection and personalized asthma management.

A cross-sectional study investigated the associations between different types of screen time and developmental outcomes among children aged 0–6 years in Thailand. The study included 465 caregiver–child pairs, with 78.9% of children exceeding recommended screen time limits. Higher total and recreational screen time were associated with increased odds of suspected developmental delays, particularly receptive language and gross motor delays. Educational and communication-based screen time were associated with lower odds of delays in selected developmental domains. The findings highlight the importance of limiting recreational screen exposure and encouraging age-appropriate, interactive digital activities.

Success rates were 90.6% for White MTA Angelus and 92.0% for NeoPutty, with no statistically significant difference between the groups. A PSAD-guided strategy could reduce MRI use by 60% and biopsies by 46%, but may delay some csPCa diagnoses, highlighting the need for continued PSA-based monitoring.

GASTROENTEROLOGY

A systematic review of six prospective studies involving 731 adults with cirrhosis found a consistent association between lower ultrasound-derived skeletal muscle measurements and increased mortality. Ultrasound-defined sarcopenia was associated with higher 6-month mortality among hospitalized patients with decompensated cirrhosis. However, differences in assessment protocols, muscle sites, and sarcopenia definitions prevented pooled analysis. Standardization and further validation are required before routine clinical use.
