Prevalence, characteristics and prognostic impact of aortic valve disease in patients with heart failure and reduced, mildly reduced, and preserved ejection fraction: An analysis of the ESC Heart Failure Long‐Term Registry

The ESC Heart Failure Long‐Term Registry studied aortic valve disease (AVD) prevalence, characteristics, and outcomes in heart failure patients. Among 15,216 patients, 4.6% had aortic regurgitation (AR), 4.3% aortic stenosis (AS), and 1.5% mixed AVD (MAVD). AS and MAVD were linked to higher risk of cardiovascular death and heart failure hospitalization over 12 months, irrespective of ejection fraction. AS was most prevalent in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) patients, while AR was evenly distributed across categories. Age and HFpEF correlated with AS, while left ventricular end-diastolic diameter related to AR. AVD's impact in HF varies by type and ejection fraction.
