Hyperuricemia, an elevated level of uric acid in the blood, is associated with increased morbidity and mortality in type 2 diabetes patients. To determine its prevalence in Africa, a systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted. The overall pooled prevalence of hyperuricemia among type 2 diabetic patients in Africa was found to be 27.28%. The highest prevalence was observed in Central Africa (33.72%), and the lowest in North Africa (24.72%). Regular screening and diagnosis of hyperuricemia are essential to prevent its negative impact on diabetic complications. These findings underscore the importance of addressing hyperuricemia to improve diabetes management in the African population.
