A recent study compared the treatment of community-acquired central nervous system infections (CNSI) in specialized infectious disease intensive care units (ICUs) with other ICUs. The study found that patients with CNSI treated in the specialized ICU had lower standardized mortality rates (SMR) and resource use rates (SRU) than mixed medical/surgical and neurological ICUs in the public health system. The findings provide valuable insights for benchmarking and global case-mix classification in similar institutions.
