The retrospective study analyzed 286 patients with locally advanced or metastatic head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) to evaluate the impact of hypercalcemia at diagnosis. In 17.8% of patients, hypercalcemia was present and was associated with significantly worse overall survival (5.9 vs. 9.1 months, p = 0.002) and progression-free survival (2.4 vs. 4.7 months, p = 0.0025). Multivariate analysis confirmed hypercalcemia as an independent negative prognostic factor.
