Prognostic utility of preoperative platelet-to-albumin ratio in surgically treated oral cavity cancer patients

This retrospective study on 355 surgically-treated oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) patients (2008–2017) assessed the prognostic value of the preoperative platelet-to-albumin ratio (PAR). The optimal cutoff, determined as 7.45 through X-tile analysis, revealed PAR ≥7.45 as an independent negative prognostic factor for disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS). A PAR-based nomogram was developed, offering personalized OS predictions. The study concludes that preoperative PAR is a promising, cost-effective prognostic biomarker for surgically-treated OSCC patients.
