
A new study examined four specific molecules known for their roles in lung fibrosis and their potential as biomarkers for post-COVID-19 pulmonary fibrosis patients dealing with respiratory post-acute sequelae of the disease (PASC). The study showed periostin's potential in predicting persistent pulmonary fibrosis, but the effect size appeared modest. A 1 ng/ml increase in periostin was associated with just a 0.1% higher risk of persistent pulmonary fibrosis. The study's findings offer a glimpse into the complexities of predicting and managing chronic lung diseases following acute COVID-19.
