A study involving 144 perimenopausal women with chronic periodontitis compared the efficacy of 0.2% chlorhexidine mouthwash and 20% propolis mouthwash as adjuncts to mechanical therapy. Over six weeks, both groups exhibited improvements in pocket probing depth (PPD), clinical attachment loss (CAL), and bleeding on probing (BOP). Propolis was notably more effective in reducing BOP, showcasing its potential as a beneficial mouthwash in managing chronic periodontitis. The study emphasizes the positive impact of both mouthwashes on clinical parameters, with propolis standing out in addressing bleeding concerns.
